Observer Tools Responsible Minerals Sourcing Policy

Purpose

Observer Tools is committed to sourcing minerals responsibly so that our products are made in ways that respect human rights, avoid contributing to conflict, and minimize environmental harm.

Scope

This policy applies to minerals commonly used in our products and supply chain, including, but not limited to:

  • Lithium, Cobalt, Graphite, Nickel, Copper, Gold, Tin, Tantalum, Tungsten, Mica

Policy Commitments

  1. Conflict-Avoiding Sourcing
    • We seek to avoid minerals that finance armed groups or contribute to human rights abuses.
    • We encourage suppliers to follow recognized due‑diligence practices for minerals from conflict-affected and high-risk areas (e.g., OECD-aligned programs).
  1. Best Efforts for Transparency
    • We ask suppliers to use best efforts to identify the origin of minerals and share available information when possible.
    • Where feasible, suppliers should work toward sourcing from smelters/refiners validated by recognized programs (e.g., Responsible Minerals Initiative).
  1. Human Rights & Labor
    • We expect suppliers to uphold international labor standards and local laws, avoiding child labor, forced labor, and unsafe working conditions.
  1. Environmental Responsibility
    • We encourage suppliers to minimize environmental impact in mining and processing and adopt sustainable practices.
  1. Continuous Improvement
    • Observer Tools will collaborate with suppliers to improve sourcing practices and explore alternatives that enhance social and environmental performance.

Supplier Expectations

  • Policy Alignment: Suppliers agree to align with this policy and our Supplier Code of Conduct.
  • Best Efforts: Suppliers will make reasonable, good-faith efforts to trace mineral origins and share information when available.
  • Risk Notification: If suppliers become aware of credible risks (e.g., conflict sourcing, human rights concerns), they should inform Observer Tools promptly and work toward remediation.

Corrective Actions

  • If a credible issue is identified (e.g., minerals linked to conflict or human rights abuses), Observer Tools will:
    • Engage the supplier to understand the situation and agree on a corrective action plan.
    • Set reasonable timelines for remediation based on severity and feasibility.
    • Monitor progress and provide support where possible.
    • If remediation fails or severe violations persist, Observer Tools reserves the right to suspend or terminate the relationship.

Supplier Surveys

  • Observer Tools will conduct periodic supplier surveys in conformance with IPC-1755 standards (e.g., using the Extended Minerals Reporting Template – EMRT).
  • These surveys help us understand mineral sourcing practices and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Participation is based on best efforts and intended for collaboration, not punitive measures.
